TOWN OF SUPERIOR CHILI COOKOFF RESULTS
The 11th Annual Town of Superior Regional cookoff was a huge success. We had quite a few new cooks sign up this year and some renewals as well. This cookoff has done wonders over the years to get new cooks for the ICS. In 2009, $1000 was paid in memberships. In 2010, $650 was paid in memberships. This year, the Town of Superior paid $900 (18 memberships) to the ICS. Cooks came from Arizona, Colorado, and Wyoming. The weather was great, the cooks enjoyed themselves and cooked their hearts out and the public came out in droves (estimated at 6500 - 7000 people) after 3 PM. Lots of “sampling” chili was given out by the cooks to feed hungry patrons, who bought tasting cups at 6 for $5. No entry fees were charged for any category, and the cooks cooked and gave out 2+ Gallons of chili each, in lieu of entry fees. Over $6000 was raised for the charity, the Boulder County Incident Management Team.
It was a great community event for the Town of Superior, which besides the cookoff, had Restaurant’s competing for People’s Choice, vendor tents, community organization tents, local kids groups, inflatable’s for the kids, and great live bands performing all afternoon. The cooks enjoyed themselves, getting free long sleeve T-shirts with the event logo on them, and a wrist band to get free beer all afternoon. Lots of different styles of Guacamole, Salsa, Chili Verde, and Red Chili were turned in by the cooks.
Thank you to our Chairwoman, Kristi Audette, along with her husband Dan, for organizing this event for the Town of Superior. Martin Toth and Patrick Hammer with the Town of Superior along with countless other volunteers, and Heather Cracraft, with the Chamber of Commerce, did an excellent job, also organizing and running this event for the Town of Superior. I want to thank all of the judges that come out year after year, that do a great job of picking great winners. Our team in the judging area, Kathy Plager, Kay and Mike Rook, worked with expertise again, keeping the judging area running smoothly for me, Bob Plager as Chief Judge.
A fun, well organized event, that I can say that I’m proud to have been a part of for many years.
