Chilihead and Onionista Heat Up the Summer!
The summer of 2011 has been red (or could that be green?) hot for our favorite couple, Onionista and Chilihead.
When we last heard from the sizzling pair, their romance had blossomed so fast it took everyone by surprise — even yours truly (also known as the Food Enthusiast). No matter how grounded in their own worlds, their romance was destined to have real spark. Onionista is sweet, yet super hot while Chilihead is a handful of spicy goodness.
Since that that first encounter in February, to their spring gatherings around the chili pot, this couple is still aiming to come out on top at the World Championship Chili Cookoff in Manchester, New Hampshire September 30 to October 2, 2011. And that brings us to chapter three of this saga.
The chemistry between Chilihead and Onionista continues to prove their match-up is made in food heaven. In fact, I’d say this steamy affair is in a full boil! Watch out around these two in the kitchen. It’s bound to be hot no matter what color of chili is in the pot!
Over the summer, Chilihead’s ambition to win the WCCC only grew stronger. And so did the flame for his true love as they traveled to local and regional chili competitions. Chilihead’s spent many hot, grueling hours in the kitchen making minor adjustments to his recipe and secured himself a place in the competition. He is confident the flavor of fresh onion he’s added to his recipe makes him a strong contender for the WCCC title. Bet you can’t guess where his inspiration for that came from?
Speaking of Onionista, in June, she helped revise the National Onion Association’s website at www.onions-usa.org. Be sure to visit the site, you’ll be amazed at all the information, helpful tips, and delicious recipes. When Onionista wasn’t working on the website or cheering on her man at a chili competition, she was in the fields checking on the fall onion crop. Which, by the way, should be in supermarkets by September.
Although it sounds like our favorite couple was all work and no play, don’t be fooled. These two hotties know how to spice things up. Like any romantic couple, Onionista and Chilihead took a few evening strolls in the moonlight, watched the fireworks on the 4th of July, and continued to share their love of movies and music. They even found time to take a few much-needed getaways. As a surprise, Chilihead took Onionista on her dream vacation to Coney Island, New York. For her, the island is onion heaven where hot dogs get smothered in onions and topped with all kinds of wonderful ingredients. You might say it brought tears of joy to her eyes. On another adventure, they went to St. Louis, Missouri, where legend has it chili was served at the 1904 World’s Fair. Often considered the launching point for the rise of the Chili Nation in America, St. Louis made Chilihead felt right at home.
Folks, clearly this is no casual romance. Onionista and Chilihead were not just red or green hot this summer, they were truly inseparable! And this affair is not even over yet. As the leaves begin to change color, there’s a chill in the air and that means the WCCC is just around the corner. Will Chilihead be crowned a champion in Manchester at the WCCC with Onionista by his side? Can the flames get any hotter or will the chill of early winter dowse the flames to embers? Stay tuned as the saga continues.
