World’s Championship Chili Cookoff Just A Week Away!

The World’s Championship Chili Cookoff is just a little over a week away. As teams feverishly make their preparations to arrive in Manchester, N.H., fans and chiliheads alike also begin preparation for the big event. Hormel is generously donating 990 BIG cans of chili for use in the People’s Choice Chili this year! Everyone is preparing for the big event!

The WCCC opens to the public on Friday, September 30th at 11am. Shortly after the festival crowds start pouring in, the Last Chance Chili cooks will start their fires and take their last chance swing at chili glory. Every day of the festival there will be Best Booth Decoration and Showmanship judging. In addition, festival goers are invited to stop by Target’s Up and Up tent for giveaways and prizes, as well as try Deep River Snacks’ samples of chips at their booth.

On Saturday the fun will kick off with judging for the Salsa competition. Festival goers are also invited all weekend to stop by the National Onion Association’s booth to talk about, ask questions and receive information on the  delicious world of onions. Tips and suggestions will range from which onion is best for a cooking situation as well as how to best prepare them. The NOA will also be hosting children’s onion decorating contests on Saturday and Sunday for some kid-friendly fun!

Saturday is also Chili Verde day! For those who may not know, the International Chili Society defines Chili Verde as any kind of meat or combination of meats cooked with green chili peppers along with various spices and other ingredients. But remember folks — no beans, no pasta!

Late in the day on Saturday the Shoot N’ Holler competition will begin. Come watch the cooks take a shot of tequila and holler as loud and as long as they can. The audience decides the brave winner of this fan favorite competition. Fans are also invited to come by the Tabasco and Master of Mixes booths for free samples and other cool stuff.

The weekend builds to the big day on Sunday. Traditional Red Chili competition will kick off in the morning. The competition will be fierce this year as the lineup of chili cooks is the best field the WCCC has seen in years! Also on Sunday is the KRAFT People’s Choice Chili Challenge.

The World’s Championship Chili Cookoff will culminate with the awarding of the Best Booth and Showmanship winners. Then the KRAFT People’s Choice Challenge winners will be announced. All building up to the $25,000 Traditional Red Chili World’s Champion being crowned for 2011!

If you don’t have your tickets or haven’t made your plans yet, the World’s Championship Chili Cookoff is a festival you don’t want to miss!
