TOWN OF SUPERIOR CHILI COOKOFF

This chili cookoff is a major town event for Superior.  It’s not just any cookoff, in or around a park and parking lot, but one where the whole community comes out to take part in the family friendly, 10th Annual Chili Fest.  This event comprises an ICS Chili Cookoff, Restaurant’s giving away People’s Choice, vendor tents, community organization tents, local kids groups, inflatable’s for the kids, bands on stage, and even the chance to have your picture taken with “Mr. Denver”, a huge Brahma Bull.

The weather was perfect for the day, the crowds were estimated at over 6,000 people, and over $7400 was raised selling 6 for $5 tasting cups for the charity:  The Boulder County Incident Management Team, which unfortunately had lots of it’s firefighter teams still out working on the major Boulder area Four Mile Canyon Fire, one of the worst fires in Colorado history.

The Town of Superior and all their staff that worked the event are great to work with.  Our Chairwoman, Kristi Audette, along with her husband Dan, Martin Toth, Milisa, Juanita, Heather, and all the other countless volunteers, made this event a huge success.  To our great Scorekeeping and Wrangling Team of Kathy Plager, Kay and Mike Rook, Al Henry and Kristi Audette, I thank you, as I’m sure the cooks appreciated accurate scorekeeping, and all of us kept the large number of judges moving around the tables, and kept the tables stocked with spoons, drinks, and veggies.

One more thing before the winners.  The Town of Superior doesn’t charge entry fees for any category, and if you are a new member or renewing member, they pay your $50 annual dues to the ICS for you.  They give you a nice long sleeve T-shirt with their logo on it and pass out drinks to you during the day.  All they require is that you cook and give away 2+ gallons of People’s Choice Chili or Salsa to the public to help raise money for their charity.  What a group to work with!!
