2011 FLORIDA KEYS - FEBRUARY 12-13
Hi Everybody,
In response to a number of cooks’ inquiries, the dates for the 2011 Florida Keys Cookoffs - Florida Keys Regional & Florida State - are now set.
They will be Saturday February 12 & Sunday February 13…the weekend after the Super Bowl, or back to the historical dates for the cookoffs. They are not yet on the ICS website, but they’ve been coordinated with Vickie and she has them penciled in.
They will again be at Islamorada in the Middle Keys, which is Marshall’s and my favorite part of the Keys…although admittedly that is a bit of “hair-splitting”. To our good fortune, the Moose Lodge is once more our sponsor, as are the direct involvement of Dennis (Ward) and Mirna (Hormechea) - second year for all; it should be special.
Negotiations are ongoing for a Headquarters Hotel with a good rate. As soon as something is firm, I’ll get the word out.
I know everybody is currently focused on Manchester in a couple of weeks…and here I am talking about February???!
Undoubtedly, it is theoretically possible to “sweep” all three at the WCCC; as is also to win the Powerball…odds are probably similar. Plus, if not managed to sweep Manchester, there is always the possibility to lock up a Hat Trick between the WCCC and early February.
Yes, I understand all that. However, should you be so unfortunate as to not accomplish either or the previous, I thought it worthwhile to put out the information for your long range cookoff planning.
By the way, the cookoffs also make for a “rather nice” winter vacation in the (lovely) Florida Keys…just ask the cooks from 2010; see Mad Mike’s http://smilebox.com/play/4d5455314e5449794e7a493d0d0a&sb=1. So, even if you’ve already fully qualified for 2011 by early February, it is worth the trip - plus, as important, we (I) can use all the experienced help we can get for judging, given the historical caliber of the chilis & salsas on both days.
