BEATY DAYS REGIONAL CHILI COOKOFF RESULTS
Well, we put out the word calling for cooks and they responded. We know we can always count on the cooks to show up and support us at Beatty. We had 25 Red Cooks, 15 Verde and 11 Salsa. A great big thank you to all the ones who responded.
It was a beautiful weekend weather wise (a little cool in the morning, but it warmed up pretty quickly once the sun was up totally) and turned out to be a great day for cooking chili. The potluck held at Fred and Patti Summer’s place afterwards was a success as usual. Everyone knows that chili cooks cannot only cook chili but are also good in the kitchen. They had quite a crowd at the Happy Burro Chili and Beer bar. If you have never been there you need to make it a point to stop by if you ever go out that way, they are on the main street that runs through Beatty, you can’t miss them. I also want to thank the judges who came to help, the Caimi’s, Maehl’s, Phil, and all the other Judges who helped. Also, I want to thank Donnie for coming up to help me and bringing Leah with her. Donnie, Leah and Nicole were a big help to me in the Scorekeeping Dept.
Mike Austin held a Texas Holden Poker tournament again this year and guess who won….Mike won again. We have decided to just let him be a dealer next year and not let him play, LOL. He gets to keep his trophy and the $100.00 prize money.
They had the Dutch Oven cookoff on Sunday and as usual Norm was Chief Judge. This year Mark Haught made a clean sweep, he won People’s Choice Dessert and Main Dish, and he won the Official Judging Dessert and Main Dish. This is the first time one person has won all four contests! In fact the dessert he made was so good it should be outlawed. It was call Over the Hump Dump Cake and it was fabulous.
Okay enough of the small talk, I know most of you don’t like long winded stories. So on to the winners:
