NEW RULE CHANGES AND ENFORCEMENTS
The following rules will be effective for the 2010-2011 cooking season, the 2011 World’s Championship Chili Cookoff and until further notice.
- NEW FOR 2010-2011: IF A DISTRICT COOKOFF HAS 20 OR MORE COOKS, THE WINNER WILL ADVANCE TO THE 2011 WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP AND THE COOKOFF WILL BE DESIGNATED A REGIONAL COOKOFF IN 2011-2012. IF YOUR 2010-2011 DISTRICT COOKOFF HAS 19 OR LESS COOKS, YOUR WINNER WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY AN ENTRY FEE TO COMPETE IN THE LAST CHANCE COOKOFF AT THE 2011 WCCC.
- Salsa MUST be homemade. Salsa may be prepared ahead of time or on site. It must be prepared by the ICS member whose name appears on the official contestant list and who signs for the official judging cup. Commercial salsa will no longer be accepted as an entry.
- In order for a cook to receive the official judging cup for their specific contest, they must sign the contestant list and provide their active ICS membership number.
- Sharing or splitting of red chili, chili verde or salsa for judging with another contestant will result in suspension of membership for a minimum of one year. Any cookoff chairman, chief judge or scorekeeper allowing cheating in any way will result in non-sanctioning of their event the following year.
- People’s Choice Chili is governed by the sponsoring organization and cookoff chairman of each cookoff, not the ICS. The chairman can require (a) 2 gallons maximum in lieu of a cash entry fee;(b) 1 gallon maximum in addition to a cash entry fee or (c) a cash entry. Non-compliance by a contestant of the Chairman’s requirement will result in disqualification from the competition. Discrimination by a cookoff chairman or chief judge will result in non-sanctioning of their event the following year.
- As in prior years, any cook winning two district cookoffs in 2010-2011 will be eligible to compete in the 202011 WCCC.
- Cookoff chairmen will be required to email, fax or phone winners of their cookoff to the ICS office by the Tuesday following their event.
- Unless otherwise indicated, 2 gallons of People’s Choice Chili will be required from each cook qualified to compete in the World’s Championship Chili Cookoff. This applies to each category for which they are qualified.
The following rules will be effective for the 2011-2012 cooking season.
1. A minimum of 10 contestants must compete in a specific category, ie, red chili, chili verde or salsa, for that category to be recognized as a qualifying event. This will apply to all cookoffs - District, Regional, State and Foreign.
2. The required number of red cooks for a Regional Cookoff has been 20 for the past several years. The ICS has been lenient and allowed the Regional status to continue even though the numbers were not met. In fact, there were more than 40 Regional Cookoffs in 2009-2010 that had fewer than 20 cooks. The 20 cook rule for Regional Cookoffs will be strictly enforced. Any Regional Cookoff that does not have 20 red cooks participating in their 2010-2011 cookoff will be a District Cookoff in 2011-2012 cooking season and must remove the word “Regional” from the cookoff name since that term implies that the winner will advance to the WCCC as in the past and will cause confusion.
