Chilli, Salsa, Chilli Verde Cookoff Winners Announced Saturday

(Taylorville, IL.)—Winners were named on Saturday, during day # 1 of 2 days of salsa, chili verde, and chili judging, at the 25th annual Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest on the Taylorville square.

In the showmanship competition, Aly Atchison won $100 and a plaque.

In the salsa competition, (14 contestants), 4th place honorable mention went to Larry Estep; 3rd place winner who received a plaque, was Norman Melancon; 2nd place winner of $25 and a plaque was Linda Curtin; and first place winner of $100 and a plaque was Paul Wessing.

In the chili verde competition, (11 contestants), 3rd place went to Jeff Netzer who won $25 and a plaque; 2nd place went to Julie Netzer who won $50 and a plaque, and first place went to Loyd Weir who won $200 and a plaque.

In the chili competition at the Taylorville Chillifest on Saturday, (32 contestants), 3rd place went to Jerry Simmons who won $100 and a plaque; 2nd place to Mary Thomas who won $200 and a plaque; and first place went to Joni Deere, who won $500 and a plaque. Deere also qualified to participate in the International Chili Society World Champonship.

(Taylorville, IL.)—Winners were announced in Sunday chilli, chilli verde, and salsa judging, at the 2010 Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Chillifest.

The 2nd day of judging was sanctioned by the International Chilli Society.

In the booth competition, Aly Atchison of Clinton, Illinois, was the winner, winning 100-dollars and a plaque.

In the salsa competition, (13 contestants), third prize winner of a plaque was Joe Ragan of Springfield, Illinois. Second prize winner, who received 25-dollars and a plaque, was Scott Barrett of Willow Springs, Illinois. First prize winner, receiving 100-dollars and a plaque, was Dianne Melancon of Gonazlez, Louisana.

In chilli verde competition, (10 contestants), third prize winner of 25-dollars and a plaque, was Maureen Barrett of Willow Springs, Illinois. Second prize winner was Georgia Weller of Rockton, Illinois, who received 50-dollars and a plaque. First prize winner, who received 200-dollars and a plaque, was Jeff Netser of Seymour, Indiana.

In chilli competition, (23 contestants), third prize winner, receiving 100-dollars and a plaque, was Jill Simmons of Florissant, Missouri. Second prize winner was Lloyd Weir of Normal, Illinois, who received 2000-dollars and a plaque. First prize winner, who earned the right to participate in the World Championship, was Mary Thomas of Clinton, Illinois, who received 500-dollars and a plaque.
