Goodie Two Shoes to benefit from Jan. 14-15 People’s Choice at Smokin’ Big Chili Challenge II

The Goodie Two Shoes Foundation will be the beneficiary of the People’s Choice awards when the Smokin’ Big Chili Challenge II back-to-back International Chili Society Regional Cookoffs are presented Jan. 14-15 on the grounds of the CasaBlanca Resort.

“This is awesome,” said Nikki Berti, who co-founded Goodie Two Shoes nine years ago with her husband, Tony, a former  National Football League player. “We have actually been very fortunate during the past year given the state of the economy and the amount of people clamoring for our product. We have seen many people return the favor and in fact, we have one woman who we have provided shoes for her 12 children. “She is now a volunteer for us.”

Knowing that the People’s Choice element of chili cookoffs can generate thousands of dollars, Berti is especially eager to be a part of this year’s event. “I’m told that the cooks take their work very seriously,” she said. “People love to be able to test and judge the competition and this is going to be a lot of fun to see.”

Additionally, this year’s event is expected to benefit by the fact that the fourth annual Mesquite Motor Mania scheduled the same weekend is expected to draw about 600 classic vehicles.

People’s Choice will begin at noon each day, or until the chili runs out. Many of the participants in Mesquite Motor Mania are expected to pay the $5 for the opportunity to test the chili.

“I can’t imagine a weekend more fun than this one,” said Berti. “We’re really looking for to it.”

For Berti, the chili cookoffs are the second time her group has been the beneficiary of a Mesquite Gaming special event. “We were part of the Bunco tournament last February,” she said. “That was wild and crazy and we had so much fun. With the chili cookoff, my husband is a real foodie anyway.”
