Upstate Chili Cookoff
Dear Chili Head,
The Upstate Chili Cook-off, the only chili cook-off in South Carolina endorsed by the International Chili Society, is less than a month away!! It will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011, on Main Street in beautiful downtown Belton, SC. The winner of this event is guaranteed an entry into the World Chili Cook-off Championship.
The weather has been so nice and we are hoping that you will participate in this year’s family-friendly event that celebrates all that is good about small-town life, spring in the South, civic pride, and really great chili!
This year’s competition includes three categories: red chili, chili verde, and salsa. We encourage you to compete in the 2011 Upstate Chili Cook-off as either an official ICS competitor or a People’s Choice competitor. We have great entertainment and activities available throughout the day such as:
- Arts and crafts exhibits and sales by local artisans
- Homemade baked goods, canned goods, cookbooks, and other items offered by local churches
- Games and activities especially for children
We are very excited to have chili expert, Michael Freedman, as the Chief Judge of our competition and if you have any questions about ICS rules or procedures he is the man to ask!
The Holiday Inn in Anderson at 3509 Clemson Boulevard will be the spot to stay for out-of-town participants and guests. Rooms may be reserved directly from our website and don’t forget about the Cooks’ Party on April 15th in the lounge/restaurant area of the hotel with entertainment by the B Natural Jazz Quartet.
