Our freezer is full of breakfast fixin’s, and we’re almost ready to hit the road in our motorhome for the 27th (do you believe that?!?) annual cookoff at Lost Lake Resort on the Colorado River.  Bob Witt, who helped organize the first one, helped us at the recent Boulder Creek Ranch cookoff.  We relived lots of memories of past friends and past cookoffs.  What fun we’ve had!  This may (or may not) be the oldest ICS cookoff to have been held consecutively at the same venue.

Nothing has changed.  Dry camping is free; a few early arrivals will get limited access to water and electricity hookups.  Breakfast will be served at 8:00 am on Saturday, along with your beverage of choice hosted by Armando Sanchez to get the day off to a good start.  Tips are accepted.  Captain Jim will hold his cooks meeting for all categories at 9:00.  Salsa turn-in is at 11:30; chili verde is cooked from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm; red chili is cooked from 12:00 noon to 3:00 pm.  Emcee Steve Porter feels that the worst is behind him and is ready and able to “do his thing”.  People’s Choice chili is optional and very much appreciated by the public.  There’s always at least $500 from the sale of tasting kits to be distributed among the top three winners.  If you haven’t attended this cookoff in the last few years, you’ll be pleased to know that it is now accompanied by a very nice car show and, of course, the traditional horseshoe tournament.

Anyway, we’re looking forward to another great cookoff.  We have commitments, if not actual entries, from enough cooks to assure that there will be two preliminary tables of red chili.  There are actually three cooks who are recent members who have already registered to cook.  As always we could use more salsa and chili verde cooks.

We’re looking forward to seeing you at Lost Lake Resort.
